ZANU-PF decided at its annual conference that the party would actively pursue the legal and constitutional basis for extending the life of the current president and parliament to 2030. The decision was taken with the clear evidence of serious factional dispute within the party, articulated by the speech of the Vice-President to the Conference. His articulation of the relationship between corruption and the need to hold on to political power escaped no-one The decision is predicated on the view that the government is doing so well on every front that it needs to continue this momentum. However, these claims are disputed both by most commentators and by the evidence of the deepening economic crisis and rampant corruption, and also by the evidence that virtually no person in the country is in favour oy any term extension. Thus, will the proposal cure the problems or rather exacerbate the crisis within the country and within the party? This will be discussed by an expert panel.
